Vita

Jean-Paul Van Gestel was born as the second of four sons of Toon Van Gestel and Riet Van Gestel-Van Leysen in Bavel, Nieuw-Ginneken, The Netherlands. After successful completion of his high school degree at "Het Stedelijk Gymnasium" in Breda in 1990, he started his Master's degree at the department of Mining and Petroleum Engineering of the Delft University of Technology. In August of 1996 he graduated from this university with a specialization in Geophysics and immediately after came to Austin to start a Ph.D. study at The University of Texas at Austin again with a specialization in Geophysics. He completed internships with BP and Chevron in the summers of 1998 and 1999 respectively, and joins BP Amoco in Houston after completion of his degree.
