Preface

This dissertation consists of two distinctly different parts. Right after I was accepted into the graduate program of The University of Texas, I was invited to join a field cruise to the seas surrounding Puerto Rico, which was organized by Paul Mann, Nancy Grindlay and Jim Dolan. In the fall of 1996, I started working of the processing and interpretation of the seismic data that were collected during this cruise. This work had some excellent results, which were published in two papers, i.e. Van Gestel et al. (1998) and Van Gestel et al. (1999) and form the first two chapters of this dissertation. For the second part of my dissertation I returned to the main subject of my Master's thesis, the Ground Penetrating Radar. I successfully investigated the value of collecting Ground Penetrating Radar data using multiple configurations. This study forms the third and last chapter of this dissertation.
